THE PROJECT
The concrete objective of the partnership is to provide students with a deeper understanding of cultural tourism and to widen their knowledge in subjects related to culture, history, traditions, tourism, gastronomy, English language and ICT while integrating students who come from different cultural backgrounds.
Doing the project tasks (visiting each other ‘s countries, creating mini–tour guides and itineraries, etc.) will prepare our students to become  open-minded, culture-conscious citizens and skilled travellers and we intend to motivate them to actively participate in social life.
This is why we have chosen the title H.E.R.M.E.S. (acronym of How Everybody Remembers Meaningful Enjoyable Sights): students will be involved in the study of their own countries and of the other partners’ countries; they will appreciate the different cultures, will develop the pleasure of travelling and visiting meaningful sites and, like Hermes (Mercury – the messenger of the Gods) they will be messengers and testaments to different cultures from all over Europe.
Consequently, our objective is to benefit from the contributions of joint European activities on international, cultural, educational, linguistic, economic and social scales.
In line with its main agenda of conscientious travel, the project is also designed to raise environmental awareness. The greenhouse gases emitted because of the flights taking place as part of travel within the project have a negative impact on the environment. In order to counteract this impact we will donate money to the German environmental organization Atmosfair based on the CO2-emissions caused by each trip. Atmosfair will then implement solar, hydropower or other energy-efficient projects in order to “neutralize” the emitted greenhouse gases. Informing staff, pupils and local communities of this action should increase environmental awareness beyond the project itself.
